Van Gogh's Sun Flowers: Rhythm and Movement

 As Kindergarten students looked at images of Van Gogh's art, we talked a lot about the vocabulary words Rhythm and Movement. I showed them how all the swirls in Van Gogh's Starry Nigh make your eye dance around the painting. We also talked about his little heavy lines and how that creates a rhythm for the viewer. After looking and talking about Van Gogh's wonderful paintings we then made some rhythm and movement art on our own. I covered their tables in brown craft paper and let them pick up some oil pastels. I made noises as I walked around the classroom, and the students made marks related to the noises they heard. Take a look at what we created...
